About

A duo. A debut album.
A sound ready for the world.

Randle & Pain create music that feels cinematic in both scale and emotion; intimate songs framed by lush arrangements, close vocal harmony and a distinctly visual sense of storytelling.

Sarah Randle and Adam Pain first met at The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts in 1996. Drawn together by a mutual love of harmony-rich artists such as The Beatles, The Carpenters and Earth, Wind & Fire, they developed a musical connection rooted in melody, atmosphere and emotional honesty.

Over the following decades, both built substantial creative careers. Randle toured and recorded with Chris Rea and recorded work with legendary producer Gus Dudgeon, establishing herself as a vocalist of remarkable depth and versatility over a professional career spanning more than thirty years. Pain worked extensively across music production, video production and composition for media and advertising, developing a style that blends cinematic scope with detailed, emotionally driven arrangements.

It was during the pandemic that the pair finally found the space to reconnect creatively. Inspired as much by film scores and the modern "second golden age" of television as by a range of contemporary artists, from Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon to The Staves, Lizzy McAlpine and Madison Cunningham.

Randle & Pain began crafting songs that feel immersive, atmospheric and timeless. At the centre of the project is Randle's extraordinary voice; capable of moving from fragile intimacy to raw soulful intensity within the same breath, supported by Pain's richly constructed arrangements that evoke the emotional pull of cinema.

The recordings feature an exceptional cast of collaborators including guitarists Nat Martin and James Betteridge, bass player Pat Hughes, vocalists Sarah Martin and Deborah Pain and saxophonist Paul Raymond. The writing team also includes Ivor Novello award winning songwriter Tim Hawes and David Tench, known for his work with Kylie Minogue, Sugababes and as the long-standing musical director for The Voice UK.

Two songs on the record were co-written with the late Matt Haslett, a deeply respected musician whose influence and artistry continue to resonate throughout the project.

Randle & Pain inhabit a space where classic songwriting craftsmanship meets cinematic modern production… music made not for the algorithm, but for listeners who still want to disappear into an album and live inside its world.
